Recipe - Green Juice

I found my blender and made this!

Was so happy when I found the blender that I spent the evening looking at green juice recipes on YouTube then jumped outta bed and rushed to Asda to get the ingredients the next morning.

Im starting off simple and will aim to add or change some things along the way. So we have:

Spinach - £1.00
Ice - £1.00
Frozen Mixed Fruit (apple, grape, melon and pineapple) - £0.88
Bananas - £1.00
Lemon - £0.85

My blender! Just a basic one from Argos, I have had this for about five years so can not remember the price but I wouldn't have paid more than £20 for it. Bargain considering it is a glass jug!

First attempt and this is what I added

One large handful of baby spinach.

One cup of frozen mixed fruit

One banana , peeled and chopped

Half a lemon, juice only

Five ice cubes and water

Here it is all in there

It's blending........

........ GREEN JUICE!

First taste: not sweet (I do have a sweet tooth), banana not ripe enough, lemony. But I LOVE it! OMG! It really is that simple.

Now I know what to do for my next attempt. When I make it perfect I will let you all know!

Naked - Green Machine

So after debating I decided to go back to Waitrose and pick up the Naked juice, which is what I originally intended to buy.

As it states that it has apple, pineapple and kiwi juice I actually thought it would have a nice sweet flavour to it, but I wondered how this would be "antioxidant".

Then I read the ingredients and realised it also included botanical extracts of spirulina, chlorella, broccoli, spinach, barley grass, wheat grass, parsley, ginger root, blue green algae and odourless garlic, all of which are POWDERED!

It actually says ".... don't judge a smoothie by its colour. It actually tastes good."

I disagree.

I don't know whether it was the powdered ingredients that I disliked the taste of but I really did not like this juice. I tried, I kept sipping, very small sips, but the consistency, smell and overall taste (which was sweet) did not impress me at all.

I had to throw it away, £2.39 in the bin!

Have you tried this juice? Do you agree or disagree? I really want to know if it was just me!

Innocent Super Smoothie - Antioxidant

Whilst browsing the juice aisle in my local Waitrose I spyed the new a Innocent range that I had recently seen on Facebook and Twitter.

I settled on the Antioxidant one as I want to find a "grab-n-go" green juice to help me get as much nutrients as possible.

I did like the taste of this and would honestly purchase it again as well as try out the rest of the range.

I must say Innocent do know what they are doing when it comes to smoothies and I have always been a big fan. So I am happy they now have this Super Smoothie line to add to their range.

This was on offer at an introductory price of £2.00

Savse - Super Green

I had been on the look out for a grab n go green juice as I knew that making it at home would not be a long lasting feature for me.  But I knew I needed a quick and easy way to get some nutrients into my body what with my current health situation (read previous blog post about reintroducing gluten).

So imagine my surprise when I saw this in my local Waitrose! I actually had my hand on the Naked green juice and was also looking at the new Innocent range when I saw Savse out of the corner of my eye.

The spinach and kale jumped out at me, that's exactly what I need to help increase my iron levels. It wasn't until I actually read the label in detail after I purchased it that I noticed it had broccoli in it! Oh well it's still worth a try!

On first sip I noticed that it wasn't sweet, hence the "No added sugar" but I thought the pear would have sweetened it naturally.

The after taste is where the broccoli is most prominent, but not overpowering. So I took another sip and was surprisingly impressed, so much so that I did some research and found the rest of the range on the website aswell as their twitter and Facebook accounts!

I can't wait to try the rest of the range but I think this one will benefit me, health wise, the most at the moment.

Whole Foods - Juice Bar

I decided to try out the juice bar that they have in Whole Foods today because I have been seeing everyone on YouTube with their Green Juices and Bubble Tea, so as Whole Foods is the only place I know of in my immediate area to get fresh juices and smoothies I thought I would give it a go.

I chose the Green Machine, I can't remember all of the ingredients but I know it had apple juice, celery (which was the main ingredient I could taste), wheatgrass and some other "green ingredients".

On first taste it was ok just the celery overpowers the whole thing, you can taste the apple juice which helps sweeten it, but I'm a bit disappointed that they don't add ice! I think it was taste much better if it was ice cold and it would make it more refreshing as well.

Would I buy another one? Yes, but I would take some ice with me!
